Presser: Access to Information request for SGR and CT2 contracts
Okoa Mombasa Coalition, which Muhuri is a member, has filed an Access to Information request for contracts and documents related to the Standard Gauge Railway and Container Terminal 2.
The Coalition will on December 19 at 10 am hold a press conference at Royal Court Hotel, Mombasa, to discuss the request.
The government built SGR and CT2 using loans from China and Japan respectively. SGR loan, government reports show, is unsustainable.
The government introduced policies like the SGR transportation order, to shore up revenues to repay the loan. This caused job losses in the port city and towns along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
The CT2, on the other hand, is set for privatization. This will result in job losses, Dock Workers’ Union has said.
The public stands to loss if the government continues to enforce the SGR transportation order and privatize CT2. Therefore, they must know the content of the loans the government signed for, and which are causing economic distress.

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to
