MUHURI Thursday participated in a peace forum organized by Kiunga Youth Bunge and interfaith members led by the Lamu County Peace Chairman, Bishop Kamau at the county commissioner’s office in Mokowe.
While addressing the county security council, Mr. Rono and Interfaith members demanded an urgent collaboration with security to eradicate and address drivers of conflicts, including post-election tensions, farmers and pastoralist conflicts, fast-tracking issuance of Identity cards, immediate investigation and action of the recent police brutality and calming inter-religious tensions.
#MUHURI demanded a quick establishment of police posts at Kiangwe and Basuba to enhance access to justice and prevent citizens from taking the law into their hands.
We are delighted that the #Lamu County Commissioner committed to uniting the stakeholders and resources to ensure the #safety, #peace, and #security in Lamu County are met and guaranteed to the residents and visitors.

MUHURI today took the body of Omari Hussein Shido, 23, for postmortem; together with his distraught family members. Shido reportedly died after a brutal police assault at Border Patrol Unit (BPU camp)— Kiangwe location, Boni forest in Basuba ward.
We and the Civil Society Network of Lamu led by the Executive Director of Lamu Women Alliance and Kiunga Youth Bunge is saddened by the series of deaths caused by police brutality in Lamu.
MUHURI will closely monitor these cases to ensure justice is served.
We want an inquiry conducted pronto so that truth is known and justice delivered.
