Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI) is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) based at the Coast Province of Kenya. It was established in 1997 to promote the struggle for human rights with a view to contributing towards the national and international struggle to promote and protect the enjoyment of human rights and civil liberties by all.
Under its programs department, MUHURI wishes to fill in the following vacancy:
Human Rights Officers (HRO)
The HRO is responsible for planning and implementing MUHURI’s overall implementation of related activities within the programs, in addition to providing timely and relevant information to management, partners and stakeholders.
MUHURI needs (1) Human Rights Officer from the county of (1) Taita Taveta county specifically Taveta and Wundanyi constituency.
Terms of Reference for Human Rights Officer.
1. To implement project activities under all MUHURI program areas as a coherent and effective
Governance and human rights resource;
2. To guide communities in finding solutions to their problems on human rights violations
3. To handle rapid response issues that happen in his/her county
4. to report back to the office on both narrative and financial report on a monthly basis.
5.To document, provide feedback on, and disseminate lessons learned.
Qualifications and experience required:
Hold a diploma in a relevant community development or social science discipline.
At least one (1) year of proven experience with:
•The implementation of community based programs; in particular in terms of participatory development and the right based approach to development dissemination strategies.
•Information analysis and report writing.
•Relevant experience in civil society work
•Good knowledge and understanding of human rights
•Proven track record in community mobilization
•Knowledge of local language and national languages (Kiswahili and English)
•Must be resident of respective county
•Age : 35 years and below
She/ He must also have:
•A solid understanding of the environment in which MUHURI operates; commitment to and
•Understanding of MUHURI’s mission, vision and objectives
•Willing to undertake regular field and other external visits and interact with different Stakeholders, from citizens monitoring groups to bilateral and multilateral donors;
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (and preferably also Swahili)
•Familiarity with IT as a research tool;
•Highly organized and able to priorities and produce work of a consistently
•Leadership qualities and team management.
